Outdoor Learning Challenge

2nd Sep 2020

P7 Need Your Help!!

Have you spotted the P4 Outdoor Learning area at the front of school ? Have you noticed the P4 children learning how to use the equipment , exploring with sound on the musical tubes or balancing on the stepping stones?

I am so excited to tell you that Mrs Weir has set every class a challenge to create an outdoor learning space by Friday 2nd October!

Why are we taking learning outside ?

  • Being outdoors presents a significantly lower chance of Covid19 transmission
  • Outdoor learning positively affects :
    • Pupil and educators health and physical wellbeing
    • learning attainment
    • physical activity
    • creativity, attention and focus

The children have already started planning areas that they would like to be included and are feeling very excited about the prospect of more time outside of the classroom.

I have attached a selection of pictures of areas that I would love to include in our playground. If you or any member of your family can help to make something please send an email into school. If you have any resources around your house that we can use to make these areas please let us know so that we can arrange storage or if you are handy with a drill perhaps we could arrange an afternoon, 'socially distanced' building session.

I know that P7 will thoroughly enjoy using this area so please get involved in any way you can.

Some items that you we need donated include :

  • long sticks - for building dens and tepees
  • short sticks - for maths activities including place value
  • Rope / string - for binding sticks together
  • tree stumps - for seats, maths geo-board , times tables boards
  • cable spools - for tables , creative areas
  • tyres - for planters , seats, obstacle courses
  • spirit level - for Maths balance area
  • Guttering - for building tracks and STEM activities
  • Stones/ pebbles - to create a  vocabulary garden , art activities
  • trellis - water exploration and STEM
  • Planks of wood and crates - building balance areas, obstacle courses
  • Plant pots - for gardening activities
  • Outdoor paint - for painting tyres and pallets
  • Varnish - for weather proofing

I have a delivery of pallets expected any day. If anyone could help turn these into a seating area, a welly boot storage area or a stage it would be greatly appreciated.

I know we can all pull together to win this challenge!

Thank you for your continued support.
