P5 Outdoor Space - Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!

3rd Sep 2020

Do you have creative ideas?  Are you handy with a power tool?  Do you have access to some random junk? Do you enjoy a challenge and have a little free time to spare?  If you can answer, "Yes" to any of these questions then your P5 child needs you to help us out!

Mrs Weir has set a challenge for each class to enhance their outdoor learning & play space by 2nd October.  As you may have noticed, she has already made a start on the P4 play area (formerly known as the carpark).

P5 are lucky to have an area that includes grass and raised vegetable beds which we will be making use of throughout the year, however we have a few other ideas which would make our outdoor space even better and we would love it if any of our adults could help either by providing some materials or constructing some equipment.

Some pictures are included below to show the types of things we're hoping to create.  Mrs Atcheson has arranged for some pallets to arrive soon which we'd love to make into a stage for the children to perform their dances and skits and I am planning to refurbish half of my old oil tank into a small shelter/den (if I can get it cleaned out sufficiently).

We would be very grateful if anyone could donate or source a donation any of the following items:

  • large branches/sticks (for den building)
  • rope/paracord (for den building)
  • tyres, planks of wood, logs etc. (for loose parts to create obstacle courses)
  • a large tyre seesaw, or materials to build one (see picture for reference)
  • low wooden balance beams, or materials to construct them
  • a cable drum or similar to create a 'potions table'.
  • a cable drum to be used as a table
  • logs to be used as stools
  • a tyre and painted pebble 'Xs & Os' game or materials to construct one
  • offcuts of wood or large stones to create an outdoor clock
  • small loose parts such as stones, pinecones, moss, twigs etc for smallworld imaginative play

Please get in touch via the school email address, marked FAO Mrs McClure, if you are able to help in any way at all.  If you have any alternative or additional ideas that you can help with, these would also be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

Mrs McClure
