This maths investigation involved a rescue mission - saving a flock of 17 sheep from a flooding island. The problem became layered as we thought about time constraints and who / what matters the most. The pupils really wrestled with alternative solutions and had to think outside the box - e.g. What animals can swim? How much is each animal worth? The value of human life. Who would look after the sheep when they get off the boat? Etc.
We eventually came up with a 2 return journeys solution - can you?
